As enhancements to the site continue to be made, the OCTA reserves the right to modify its disclaimer and privacy policies without notice. OCTA is a special district government agency. OCTA Google Translate Disclaimer

The OCTA website uses Google™ Translate to provide language translations of its content. Google™ Translate is a free, automated service that relies on data and technology to provide its translations. While this system is state-of-the-art, translations cannot be guaranteed as exact or without the inclusion of incorrect or inappropriate language. Google™ Translate is a third-party service and site users will be leaving the OCTA website to utilize translated content. As such, OCTA cannot guarantee or claim responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, or performance of this service nor the limitations provided by this service, such as the inability to translate specific files like pdfs and graphic-based documents (e.g. .jpgs, .gifs, etc.).

OCTA provides Google™ Translate as an online tool for its users, but OCTA does not directly endorse the website or imply that it is the only solution to users. PRIVACY POLICY

The Orange County Transportation Authority ("Authority" or "OCTA") is committed to protecting your on-line privacy and the confidentiality of personal information you may provide while interacting with the OCTA on the Internet. We limit the collection of personal information and safeguard data that is collected or maintained by OCTA in compliance with the internet privacy requirements of Business and Professions Code section 22575, et seq.; the California Public Records Act set forth in Government Code section 6250, et seq.; and other applicable laws governing information privacy. This policy seeks to clarify our privacy policy.

Collection of Personal Information

The Authority does not automatically collect personally identifiable information about visitors who do no more than browse this site or download information from it. We do not release information about the collection of IP addresses to any third party, except as required by law. While we maintain logs of user activity in order to help us manage the website, the information stored in these logs does not identify users personally. The logs store such things as the domain name and IP addresses used to access our website; the type of browsers and operating systems used by site visitors; the date and time of site visits; and the pages accessed. Authority staff may use this information to help improve the website and its features.

Personal Information You Send

The OCTA values both your use of this site and feedback you provide. If you participate in a survey or send us an e-mail, your e-mail address and the other information you volunteer will be collected. In addition, visitors who request services through this site may be required to furnish additional information to enable us to provide the service requested. The additional information collected will be no more specific than if the visitor were requesting the service by any other means, including by telephone or an in-person visit to an OCTA facility. We may share this information with other public agencies or organizations if such action is required to provide the assistance you are requesting.

Instances where OCTA may collect information from you include, but are not limited to:

  • Information that you provide to purchase a bus pass from OCTA at passales.octa.net. This may include information such as your name, address, telephone number, email address, and credit card number.
  • Information that you provide to OCTA voluntarily such as filling out forms on our website, submitting Public Records Act requests, and participating in promotional programs such as filling out surveys and entering sweepstakes. This may include information such as your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Information that you provide to stay informed of OCTA projects and services such as your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Information that you provide when submitting an email to OCTA or an OCTA staff member, which may include your name, email address, telephone number, and address, in addition to other personal information that you provide.
  • Publicly available personal data, including data you have shared via a public platform such as Twitter or Facebook.

Security of Your Personal Information

With the importance of protecting user personal information in mind, we do not rent, sell or give away any information identifying you individually to third parties for marketing or mailing list purposes without your permission. We also do not disclose credit card information, except for purposes related to your credit card transaction, or with your permission, or as required by law.

Public Records

As a government agency, OCTA is governed by the California Public Records Act (California Government Code section 6250 et seq.). As such, most business you conduct with the OCTA becomes a public record and is open for public inspection. Public records may be posted on the website for electronic access. Records posted on the website are also available for public inspection by requests made online, in person, by mail or by telephone to the OCTA Clerk of the Board. This page and every page on OCTA.net are for general public information only. Should you require a response from the agency or wish to request agency services, you must go to OCTA.net or call the agency at (714) 560-6282. Please also be aware that, under certain circumstances, content appearing on this page may be subject to the California Public Records Act and subject to disclosure by OCTA if requested. This may include information about you that you may make available through your privacy settings on your own pages.

Cookies

The Authority makes reasonable efforts to limit the use of "cookies", which are data files stored on your computer by your web browser that provide information about you. However, cookies may be used on our site when needed to maintain the functionality of an interactive application and are used only during the session in which you access the interactive application. The cookie feature is used to store a temporary identifying tag on your computer. Depending on the settings of your browser or other methods, you can refuse or delete cookie files from your computer. Turning off the cookie option may limit your access to interactive applications of the Authority's website. The Authority’s website does not respond to “Do Not Track” signals.

Third-Party Support

Google™ Analytics – The Authority uses Google™ Analytics, which is a web and traffic analytics tool that assists the Authority in tracking and reporting on website traffic. Google™ Analytics uses cookies and may track your personal information. Facebook Business Tools – The Authority uses Facebook Business Tools to integrate our website with Facebook to better reach and serve people who might be interested in the Authority’s services. Third parties, including Facebook, may use cookies, web beacons, and other storage technologies to collect or receive information from your websites and elsewhere on the internet and use that information to provide measurement services and target ads. Third party applications are also available to users to improve access to Authority services. The Authority has no affiliation with these third parties, including Google™ and Facebook, and it cannot guarantee or claim responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, or performance of such services. The Authority disclaims any and all liability arising out of the use of any such third-party website or application, and any individual who accesses any website or application does so at his or her own risk.

Sending E-Mail

If you send the Authority an e-mail that includes personal information, we normally will use the information only to respond to your message. However, we may forward your e-mail to another agency if we believe that agency is better prepared to answer your question. If you e-mail the Authority, we will keep a record of that correspondence in accordance with our records retention policy. We do not use information received in e-mails to create personal profiles, and we do not give or sell e-mail information to others for commercial purposes.

Any e-mails that you send are governed by the California Public Records Act (California Government Code section 6250 et seq.) and may become open for public inspection. If you send us a threat or a message that describes or promotes unlawful activity, we will forward the e-mail to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

Information Collected and Stored Automatically

We may analyze user traffic patterns on our website from information automatically provided by your browser when you visit our site. This information includes the IP address of your computer or network, the date, time, and page(s) you visited on our site, your browser and operating system, and the referring page (the last webpage you visited before accessing our website). We may also use the aggregated information from all of our visitors to measure server performance and improve the content of our website.

Links to Other Sites

The OCTA may provide links to web pages that are not part of the OCTA website. The privacy policies and procedures described here do not necessarily apply to those sites. We suggest that site visitors contact these sites directly for information on their data collection and privacy policies.

Site Security

We monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or to otherwise cause damage to the website. Anyone using the Authority's website expressly consents to such monitoring.

Electronic Commerce

Users choosing to engage in electronic commerce with the Authority via this website are provided with reasonable security measures. OCTA e-commerce transactions are performed only under tightly controlled circumstances where there are appropriate safeguards in place to reasonably protect sensitive data. While e-commerce transaction systems supported on the OCTA's website are intended to ensure that financial data remains secure at all times, the Authority does not represent that the system is fail-proof.

Minors Privacy Policy

On a voluntary basis, we may use this website to collect information from minors which is related to youth education programs and other activities. Any information collected by the OCTA website from children aged 13 and under, on a voluntary basis, is subject to the same guidelines of the Authority's general Privacy Policy as well as the following guidelines:

The Authority will obtain parental consent before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information about any child if the age of the child is known to the Authority.

If the OCTA substantially changes its practices regarding the collection, use, or disclosure of information collected from children, parents will be informed of the changes and new parental consent will be obtained. Examples of substantive changes include what material is collected, how the information may be used, and third-party access to that information. Upon verification of a parent's identity by the Authority, the parent will be able to review the personal information collected from their child upon request.

Parents may revoke their consent, and the OCTA will delete information collected from or for their children upon request. When consent is revoked, the website will stop collecting, using, or disclosing information from or for that child. Revocation may end a child's participation in an activity if the information collected was necessary for participation in a particular activity on the website. SOCIAL MEDIA

The purpose of official OCTA social media pages is to serve as a mechanism for communication between OCTA and members of the public. OCTA will reserve the right to monitor, filter, and remove any content (text, links, video, etc.) that is deemed inappropriate, including but not limited to:

  1. Content not related to the purpose of the particular social media site or article commented on. If user content is positive or negative and related to the topic, then it will be allowed to remain regardless of whether it is favorable or unfavorable to OCTA;
  2. Content that contains private information about another person or that violates a person’s privacy;
  3. Content that includes profanity, vulgarity, obscenity, racism, hatred, slander, threats and/or violence;
  4. Content that defames, abuses, harasses, stalks, threatens or violates the legal rights of others.
  5. Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination or personal attacks based on race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation;
  6. Sexual content or links to sexual content;
  7. Commercial solicitations;
  8. Text or links encouraging any kind of illegal activity or spam;
  9. Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public system;
  10. Comments about OCTA employees, which will be forwarded to customer relations staff for processing according to established protocols for verification; or
  11. Content that violates ownership rights from any other party.

OCTA will apply these reasonable restrictions in a manner that is viewpoint neutral.
